We all know the importance of having a decent bed for back support. That’s why after struggling for years with back pains I finally decided that I’m going to ask a chiropractor what I should be looking for when shopping for a bed. He was very helpful and after a few days I bought the perfect bed and my back feels great. I listed a few points on what you should be looking for.
Bed Firmness
For the best spinal support your bed needs to have firm springs. If the springs are too soft your spine will bend and you will wake up with a sore spine, if its too hard it will feel as if you slept on a hard floor which will results in back pains as well.
The best way to test if a bed is too firm or too soft is to use the practical test of taking a bed and lying down. After fifteen minutes stretch your back and neck muscles and feel if they are sore or not. If your neck and back are in pain then change to a different softness or firmness.
With couples compromise is usually best; find something which suits both your needs as close as possible.
Back Support
A bed is compromised from a mattress and the box spring, both of which determine the quality of the support. A good quality bed should last at least ten to twenty years without losing any shape or support. A bad quality mattress will develop spots which go soft after a few years. This leads to dips in your bed which bends your spine and results in backpain and bad posture. Sometimes when waking you might feel pins and needles in your arms, legs or back, this is a result from your nerves pinching due to a bad bed.
Quality equals a better life
People will try to save some money by buying a cheaper bed. In the end you will have to buy another bed as the poor quality bed starts sagging and then you will have a bad back since the mattress doesn’t support your back as decently as a quality mattress. Rather spend a little more money to get the most out of your dime. This way your bed won’t break after a year or two and your back will feel better.
When shopping keep an eye out for pressure relieving mattress and pressure relieving cushions which were specifically designed to protect and support your neck and back. Buying online is also an option if you are working on a budget but looking for that perfect bed or mattress.
